Waynesboro City Council members talk priorities on Viewpoints

Chris Graham

viewpoints episode 1New Waynesboro City Council Elzena Anderson and Terry Short talk priorities with Viewpoints hosts Chris Graham and Crystal Graham tomorrow night.

Viewpoints premieres on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on WVPT with an interview with Anderson and Short, who were elected in May to seats on Waynesboro City Council.

Go to WVPT.net for more details on how to tune in.

One of the questions posed to the political newcomers: what are your priorities as new city leaders?

“With me, it’s improvements to our school system. And that not only includes the buildings, but also what’s going on inside the schools as well. Making sure that teachers are compensated, making sure that we have as many kids as possible graduate,” said Anderson, who represents Ward A on the City Council, and whose day job is assistant director at the Waynesboro Public Library.

For Short, elected to the At-Large seat, and a district planner with the VDOT Staunton District office, his focus is two-fold: schools and the local economy.

“We can’t build great schools, we can’t make great renovations in our schools, if our economy is being artificially propped up by unstable revenue resources, as they are right now. I think it’s really important to diversify our economy and bring in strong employment,” Short said.

These topics and more come up in the interview Wednesday night.
