washington nationalsJayson Werth hit a three-run first inning homer, and Joe Ross was solid in six in a 6-1 Washington Nationals win at St. Louis on Saturday.

The win gives the Nats (16-7) their first series win at St. Louis (12-12) since 2007.

Ross (3-0, 0.79 ERA) struck out four and walked two in six innings of work, allowing a run on six hits.

Washington scored four runs in the first off Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia (1-2, 3.73 ERA) on a Daniel Murphy RBI single and the three-run blast by Werth, his fourth homer of the season.

Murphy added an RBI single in the eighth, and Werth tacked on a sacrifice fly RBI later in that inning.

The Nationals will try to complete a series sweep on Sunday with ace Max Scherzer (2-1. 4.35 ERA) getting the start.
