Virginia Young Democrats oppose Republican voting rights suit

lawToday, the Virginia Young Democrats released this statement on Republican leaders’ lawsuit against Governor Terry McAuliffe for restoring the voting rights of more than 200,000 Virginians:

“I’m disappointed that Virginia Republicans have forsaken the bipartisan effort to restore voting rights to thousands of Virginians,” said Jamie Nolan, President of Virginia Young Democrats. “When Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell restored the voting rights of those who had paid their debt to society, it was greeted with nearly universal applause. But when Gov. McAuliffe continues these efforts, he is met with a partisan lawsuit. This lawsuit against Gov. McAuliffe is nothing more than party politics trying to prevent Virginians from participating in our democracy.”

Virginia Young Democrats represent young Virginians aged 13-35 and is the largest partisan youth organization in the Commonwealth.
