Virginia wrestling: Brackets, seeds announced for NCAAs

virginiaThe brackets and seeds for the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships were announced Wednesday by the NCAA. Virginia will be represented by five wrestlers, three of whom earned automatic berths at the ACC Championships last weekend.

George DiCamillo (Highland Heights, Ohio) leads the way for the Cavaliers as the six seed at 133 pounds, while Zach Nye (Enola, Pa.) is the 14 seed at 197 pounds. It is the third NCAA Championships appearance for both DiCamillo and Nye.

Also earning bids for the Cavaliers are Nick Herrmann (Amarillo, Texas) at 125 pounds, Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.) at 157 pounds and Patrick Gillen (Shelton, Conn.) at 285 pounds.

It is the third NCAA Championship appearance for Herrmann, while Atkinson and Gillen are making their first NCAA appearances.

The championships will be contested March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

  • 157: Andrew Atkinson vs. No. 9 seed Richie Lewis (Rutgers)
  • 197: No. 14 seed Zach Nye vs. Anthony Abro (Eastern Michigan)
  • 285: Patrick Gillen vs. No. 5 seed Adam Coon (Michigan)
