Virginia State University offering series of events for small-scale farmers

newspaperVirginia State University’s Small Farm Outreach Program is set to host a series of demonstrations, workshops and tours throughout the summer and fall.
Starting in July, a Small Farmer Orientation will be held the second Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at VSU’s Randolph Farm Pavilion.
Other event dates include the following:

  • July 12 – Agribusiness tour to Diggs Brothers Farm in Southampton County;
  • July 20 – Palmer Springs Community Garden Field Day in Mecklenburg County;
  • July 23– Franklin County Community Garden Field Day in Rocky Mount;
  • July 28 – L.E. Coleman Museum Community Garden Field Day in Halifax County;
  • July 28 – Buffalo Baptist Church Community Garden Field Day in Halifax County.

The community garden events will highlight new and traditional farming techniques and will share the insights of experienced growers about decisions they have made to improve productivity and meet goals.
