Virginia State Police: Rural crash in Augusta County kills one Thursday

A crash in Augusta County on Thursday night claimed the life of a Northern Virginia man after his vehicle struck a tree on Route 612.

Irfan Ahmad Mawlazoy, 25, of Stafford, was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel with the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad.

Police responded to the crash at 6:50 p.m., in a rural area in the 700 block of Quicks Mill Road, approximately 0.3 miles west of Berry Farm Road.

Mawlazoy was traveling eastbound on Route 612 in a white Toyota Camry when he ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in the front yard of a residence, according to the Virginia State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
