Chris Graham

policecar3At 3:50 a.m., the Greene County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of a possible body in the northbound lanes of Route 29, just north of the Sheets gas station in Greene County. The sheriff’s office requested state police to respond to investigate the incident.

The incident remains under investigation as state police troopers and special agents continue their work this morning to determine the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death. The remains will be transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Richmond for autopsy, examination and to confirm identification.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to please call Virginia State Police at 434-352-7128 or #77 on a cell phone.

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) northbound is closed in Ruckersville just north of Route 607 (Matthew Mill Road) for the police investigation. The Virginia Department of Transportation is establishing a detour that directs northbound motorists onto Route 607 to Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) and back to Route 29 north of the incident area.

The closure is likely to remain in place for several hours.
