policecar3At 3:01 a.m., Monday (Dec. 15), Virginia State Police Trooper T.L. Johnson was called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred on Glebe School Road/Rte 708 less than a mile west of Route 707.

A 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling north along Glebe School Road when it ran off the left side of road, struck a fence and overturned several times in a field.

Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Neither one was wearing a seat belt.

The adult male driver died at the scene. The 16-year-old male passenger was flown to UVA Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, which does remain under investigation.

State police are still in the process of notifying the driver’s next of kin.
