Towson transfer Shane Simpson is headed to UVA as a grad transfer, giving the ‘Hoos one of the top running backs from the FCS level.
The 2018 FCS All-American gained more than 2,000 all-purpose yards and scored 12 TDs that season for the Tigers, before going down to injury early in what would have been his redshirt senior season in 2019.
Simpson, who chose Virginia over Texas, was granted a sixth year by the NCAA, but he decided to enter the transfer portal when the CAA announced last month that it would not play football in the fall due to public health restrictions related to COVID-19.
The 5’11”, 205-pounder also had interest from Florida State, Penn State, Duke, Wake Forest and Northwestern.
