virginiaThe Virginia women’s tennis team will hold “The Xperience Clinic” in partnership with the Virginia Special Olympics on Thursday (Jan. 14) from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The Cavaliers, who are in their ninth year of a partnership with the Special Olympics at the event, will conduct the tennis clinic as a part of The Xperience Tennis Invitational. The tournament brings together some of the top Special Olympians from around the world.

“The Xperience – Special Olympics Tennis Event is one of the most inspiring and enjoyable events in which we have ever participated,” said Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau. “We are blessed and fortunate to have shared in this event for the past nine years. The meaning grows every year as we learn more and more about the participants and further our relationships with them. These athletes certainly teach us more than we teach them. “

Thirty-two athletes from 13 states and two international competitors will participate in the event – including three Virginia athletes. Members of the community are encouraged to come out as fans or volunteers at the tournament that runs through Saturday (Jan. 16).

“We are so excited to share in The Xperience again this year and can’t wait to see and be involved with all of our friends from around the country and beyond,” Guildbeau added. “We wish them the best of luck in this year’s tournament and in all they do moving forward in 2016. Thank you to the Special Olympics organization and to Boars Head for affording us the opportunity to participate and spend some time on the court with these remarkable people and athletes.”

Leave Dianna Russini alone: Sportswriters, coaches, happen to like hot tubs

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
