Chris Graham

uva-vmi2VMI was able to stay close for a quarter, but Virginia still rolled as expected past the overmatched Keydets, 49-0, on Saturday in rainy Charlottesville.

It was scoreless after one quarter despite UVa. (2-1) showing early signs of dominance after a David Watford pass was intercepted in the end zone by Doug Moore of VMI (1-3) to snuff out the ‘Hoos first best drive.

Virginia finally got on the board at the 12:38 mark of the second quarter on a 61-yard run by Kevin Parks. The Cavaliers scored twice in the final 3:09, on a 2-yard Parks run and a 38-yard pass from Watford to Tim Smith, to go into the half up 21-0.

Daniel Hamm scored on a 7-yard run 34 seconds into the third quarter to make it 28-0 Virginia. A 4-yard pass from Watford to Jake McGee and a Watford 1-yard run pushed the lead to 42-0 at the end of three.

Hamm scored on a 12-yard run at the 13:52 mark of the fourth to close out the scoring.

Virginia goes on the road for the first time in 2013 for its ACC opener at Pittsburgh next Saturday.

Game Notes: Parks ran for 135 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns, all in the first half. Watford completed 18 of his 25 pass attempts for 206 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore threw two interceptions, and also ran for 30 yards and a score. Daniel Hamm ran 20 times for 124 yards and one touchdown. The UVa. offense racked up 571 yards of total offense, and the Virginia D held VMI to 111 yards offense.
