Virginia father arrested, charged with felony child endangerment after search called off

The father in a missing-persons case in Lynchburg has now been arrested and charged with felony child endangerment.

Richard Carrie Sutherland, 37, and his three-year-old son, Jackson Holt Sutherland, were reported missing on Thursday at approximately 8:30 p.m., according to the Lynchburg Police Department.

Police asked for help searching for the father and son. They were reportedly traveling in a red Jeep Grand Cherokee with Virginia license plate UAD5994. Authorities thought they may be in the Rivermont area.

On Friday morning, approximately 12 hours after the report was filed, both were located safe.

Jackson Sutherland was reunited with his mother after being cleared by medics with the Lynchburg Fire Department.

Following his arrest, Richard Sutherland is currently being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail with no bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
