Virginia farm numbers decrease 3 percent from 2014

virginiaAccording to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the number of farms in Virginia in 2015 is estimated at 44,700. This is down 1,200 farms from 2014.

The number of farms with less than $100,000 in agricultural sales decreased by 1,300 farms, while operations with more than $100,000 increased by 100 farms.

Total land in farms, at 8.1 million acres in 2015, decreased 100,000 from 2014.

These statistics were gathered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
