Thousands of music and food fans will be headed for Downtown Waynesboro on Saturday for the Virginia Chili, Blues ‘n Brews Festival.

The 2012 event drew a record crowd of more than 4,000 to Lumos Plaza, and event director Terry Short is gearing up for an even bigger turnout in 2013.

“Advance ticket sales are up more than 50 percent over where we were at this time last year. We’re expecting a big crowd this weekend,” Short said.

The 2013 Virginia Chili, Blues ‘n Brews Festival features a pair of big-name blues artists, Ana Popovic and Big Bill Morganfield, and a chili cookoff featuring the top professional and amateur chefs from across Virginia and throughout the Mid-Atlantic competing for more than $2,000 in prize money.

The brews part of the festival is covered by a carefully selected mix of micro- and mega-brews.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc.
