steve landesDel. Steve Landes, R-Weyers Cave, Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, was named Legislator of the Year by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce for his work in the 2016 General Assembly session.

“During this legislative session, Delegate Landes introduced and defended landmark legislation that put us on a path to long-term economic growth,” said Barry DuVal, president and CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. “Thanks to his efforts, Virginia will establish the Virginia International Trade Corporation to improve access to Virginia’s world class export promotion programs for small- and medium-sized businesses. The Virginia Chamber applauds Delegate Steve Landes for standing with Virginia businesses and their employees, and we are pleased to recognize him as the 2016 Legislator of the Year.””

“I am grateful for the Chamber’s recognition of my work and the support of business leaders across the Commonwealth,” said Landes. “Economic development has long been a legislative priority of mine and I am pleased with what we accomplished in the General Assembly this session to keep Virginia’s economy moving forward,” noted Landes.

Delegate Landes sponsored House Bill 858, establishing the Virginia International Trade Corporation, which will promote international trade in the Commonwealth by coordinating private and public efforts to stimulate the international trade segment of the state’s economy and marketing products and services.

He also sponsored House Bill 514, which expands AFID grants to commercially-harvested wild fish and wild shell fish, and House Bill 859, which provides a sales and use tax exemption on beer making equipment and materials, promoting the expansion of our craft breweries and the creation of new ones here in the Commonwealth, were a few of the legislative achievements earning Delegate Landes the award.

Landes represents the 25th House District, which includes parts of Albemarle, Augusta, and Rockingham Counties. Landes is currently serving his eleventh term in the Virginia House of Delegates.
