VDOT roads report: March 31-April 4

road-work-header The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 21 to 19, westbound – Left lane closure for repair of cable-barrier system. Monday and Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing guardrail markers, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Lane closures as needed for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for bridge work over Cowardin Run. Work zone is 0.45 mile north of Route 618 to 0.55 miles north of Route 618.  Estimated completion Sept. 24, 2014.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches. Lane closures as needed for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks. Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2 eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6 westbound  – Left lane and shoulder closures for preliminary construction work, March 31 to April 4, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. as part of the Maury River Bridge rehabilitation project.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and ditches, repairing mile marker and guardrail marker signs.  Lane closures as needed for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks.Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 195 to 201, northbound – Right and center lane closures are scheduled for April 7 through the morning of April 12, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. These closures are for paving work on the Truck Climbing Lane project. All work is weather permitting.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting, pipe replacement, shoulder repairs, sweeping intersections and bridges, ditching with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, trash pickup and hand mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 220 – Pothole repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 250 – Tree trimming/removal at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 640 (Blue Grass Valley Road) – Tree trimming at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Pothole repairs, shoulder repairs and ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Exit 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-81. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion May 30, 2014.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker and guardrail marker signs, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Lane closures as need for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 219 to 217, southbound – Right shoulder closure for pavement work, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Exit 221, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completionMay 30, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway, Greenville) – Single lane traffic with flagger and pilot truck traffic management from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 1202 (Church Street) for sewer line work. March 31 to April 5, weather permitting.  This single lane restriction will remain in place 24 hours a day during this period. Be alert for project related work on Stover School Road, View Street, Palmer Street, Pen Apple Lane, Cut-Thru Road, Graham Street, The Banner Road and Main Street, as needed until completion of project, estimated for April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 252 – Lane closures for pavement work from the Rockbridge/Augusta county line to Route 603. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 252 – Pavement work, shoulder stone placement and line marking from Route 701 to Route 693. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion April 30, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Intersection work from Route 654 to Route 831. Traffic signal at Route 657 intersection may be disabled during flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 6, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) – Intersection work from Route 340 to 0.15 mile south. Traffic signal at Route 340 intersection may be disabled during flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 6, 2014.

Route 662 (Stover School Road) – Possible single lane closure from Route 11 to Route 916 (View Street) for seeding work as part of the sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

Route 733 (Moffett Brand Road) – Bridge closure over Elk Run, located 0.6 mile north of Route 734 (Hupman Road) near Churchville.  A temporary replacement bridge is scheduled to open by April 15, 2014, weather permitting.  Detours until the temporary bridge is open:  Southbound traffic will detour west onto Route 835 (Dudley Farm Road), south on Route 736 (Union Church Road) and east on Route 734 to Route 733.  Northbound traffic will detour west on Route 734, north on Route 736 and east on Route 835 to Route 733. 

Route 916 (View Street) – Possible single closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south for seeding work as part of the sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

Route 1201 (Palmer Street) – Possible single lane closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) to Route 1201 (Graham Street) for seeding work as part of sewer project. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Cut-Thru Road – Road closed from 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for related sewer project work. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Pen Apple Lane – Road closed from 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for related sewer project work. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) The Banner Road – Road closed from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 related for sewer project work. Estimated completion April 12, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, mile marker post repairs and pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Oakwood Drive – Bridgewater area) – Periodic flagging for construction work on temporary bridge being built over Cooks Creek. Work zone from 0.70 mile west of Route 712 to 0.58 mile west of route 712. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector in county. Shoulder closures controlled by signs. Possible lane closures controlled by flaggers. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

(NEW) Route 727 (Airport Road) – Single lane closures, alternating between eastbound and westbound lanes, for soil testing work. Traffic controlled by flaggers and traffic control signs. Work zone is at the curve near Wise Hollow Road, 0.420 mile west of Route 11 to 0.77 mile west of Route 11.  April 3 and 4, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, mile marker post repairs, cross over repair, and pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Daytime right shoulder closures at various locations as needed to install outlet pipe. Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion April 25.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 and Route 42 (Town of Woodstock) – New intersection construction at East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

 (NEW) Route 55 – Slope repairs 0.2 miles west of Route 714 (Turkey Run Road). Single-lane closure with flagger traffic control.Wednesday and Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pothole patching and brush cutting. Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, mile marker post repairs, and pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 255 – Guardrail removal and installation from Route 629 to Prospect Spring Lane. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Pothole patching and brush cutting. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 7, eastbound – Single lane closures for pavement marking and roadway maintenance work.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Estimated completion April 4, 2014.

Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for debris removal, mile marker post repairs, and pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion October 2015. Motorist should expect minor delays.

Route 340 (Duck Street to 17th Street, Town of Front Royal) – Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., center turn lane closures, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and nightly closures, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday – Friday for utility relocations. Estimated completion spring 2014.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street –Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Pothole patching and brush cutting. Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
