VDOT road work schedule for Aug. 19-23

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and cleaning paved ditches.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 7 to 16, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for roadside cleaning of bridge slopes. Wednesday toFriday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 (NEW) – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

Various roads (NEW) – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

Routes 603, 607, 680, 687 (Warm Springs) – Slurry seal at various locations August 14 to August 19, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Watch for signage and flaggers.

Route 605 (Coles Mountain Road) – (Rural Rustic Project) Surface treatment with flagger traffic control. Monday toFriday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Routes 633, 635, 636, 637, 638, 665, 666, 667, 668, 671, 698, 704 (Millboro) – Slurry seal at various locationsAugust 16 to August 23, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Watch for signage and flaggers.

Route 637 (Lower Yard, Millboro) – Road closure begins August 19 for bridge replacement over Cabin Creek. Work zone is 0.25 miles east of Route 691 (Forbes Hollow) to 0.20 miles west of Route 665 (Cabin Draft).  Traffic will detour via Route 637 to Route 707 to Route 39 (Mountain Valley Road) or via Route 637 to Route 635 (TC Walker Road) to Route 39. Estimated completion September 5, 2013.

Various roads – Pipe replacement and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, tree trimming and cleaning of bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 177.2 (UPDATE), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for repairs to bridge over Route 692 and Cedar Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Sept. 20, 2013.

Mile marker 173 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and bridge slopes.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 180.8 (UPDATE) – Right shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Also southbound I-81 left exit ramp narrows.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 23, 2013.

Mile marker 195 to 200 (UPDATE), northbound – Left mobile lane closure for completion of rumble strip work,August 19, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Right lane closure for milling and paving work, August 22, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. – Truck Climbing Lane project.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (South Lee Highway) (NEW) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed for fiber optic cable installation. Flagger controlled traffic in work zone from the Natural Bridge Fire Station to 0.07 miles south of Route 680 (Falling Spring Road). Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 11 at I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill) – (UPDATE) Flagger-controlled lane closures for repairs to I-81 bridge.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 23, 2013.

Route 60 (East Nelson Street, Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is December 2013.

Various roads – Mowing operations with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 692 (NEW) – Flagger controlled lane closures as need for I-81 bridge repair over Cedar Creek. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Sept. 20, 2013.

Right shoulder closure for repairs to bridge over Route 692 and Cedar Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Estimated completion Sept. 20, 2013.

Various roads – Pavement repairs, patching, and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Routes 604, 634, 640, 650 (NEW) – Surface treatments on various roads, August 19 to 23.  Traffic controlled by flaggers.

Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – (Rural Rustic project) Pipe installation with flagger traffic control.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 615 (Davis Run) – Grading with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 618 (Kester Hollow Road) – Grading with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 642 (Laurel Fork Road) – Ditching and road grading with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 649 (Myer Moon Road) – Pavement repairs with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 91 at Exit 91 (Augusta Health exit) (NEW) – Eastbound and westbound shoulder closures for sign installation, August 19 to August 30.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 337 (NEW), northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, tree trimming and cleaning of bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile markers 234 to 235 (NEW), northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closures over Norfolk Southern Railway for bridge inspection, August 21, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville area) – Northbound intermittent lane closures for sewer work and seeding.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Twenty-four hour right shoulder closures for seeding. Estimated completionNov. 30, 2013.

Route 250, eastbound and westbound – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement marking from Waynesboro city limits to Route 636 (Goose Creek Road).  Flagger traffic control. Aug. 11 to Aug. 14, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 340 (UPDATE) – (North Delphine Avenue, Waynesboro) Paving work on Delphine Avenue. Grading work on west end of Winchester Avenue North (closed to traffic). Grading and pipe work on east side of Delphine Avenue from 6th Street to B Street. Side street closures, lane closures and lane shifts as needed. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of August.

Route 358 (Woodrow Wilson Avenue) – Closed for grading, paving and sidewalk work from Route 880 (James Anderson Road) to Route 887 (Vance Lane). Traffic will be detoured. Estimated completion Sept. 6, 2013.

Various roads – Mowing operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road) – Flagger controlled traffic from 0.07 miles north of Route 794 to 0.25 miles south of Route 795 for Rural Rustic project. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 29, 2013.

Route 701 (Howardsville Road) between Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) – Right shoulder closures with possible single lane closures for installation of right turn lane for C. Layman Subdivision. Monday to Friday, 8.a.m. to 5.p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 31, 2013.

Route 747 (Freemason Run) (UPDATE) – Road is now closed 24-hours a day for bridge deck replacement. Closure from 0.05 miles from Route 730 (Stribling Springs Road) to 0.38 miles from Route 761 (Bull Mountain Road) with detours at Stokesville Road, Bull Moutain Road and Dorkas Road. Estimated completion Sept. 6, 2013.

Route 754 – Resurfacing project that will include pipe installation, construction of new ditch lines, grading of surfaces and paving operations – Shoulder and lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2013.

Route 828 (Cattle Scales Road) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control. Expected completion October 2013. Route 1050 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1316 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1510 (Stuart Avenue, Stuarts Draft) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013.

Various roads – Grading operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

Various roads – Mowing and patching. Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264 (NEW), northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and line marking work. Expect possible delays from mile marker 237, which is located north of exit 235 at Route 256 near Weyers Cave, to mile marker 264, which is located near exit 264 at Route 211 near New Market. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and shoulder repairs. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mile marker 243 and 244 (NEW) northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closure for bridge inspections, August 22, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Mile marker 245, northbound and southbound over Blacks Run. Alternating right shoulder closures for bridge inspections. August 16, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Sidewalk construction from Route 701 (Cooks Creek Road) to Route 726 (Erickson Avenue). Flagger controlled lane closures. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 23, 2013.

Route 42 (Main Street, Broadway) (UPDATE) – Alternating left and right lane closures for milling, pavement work and line painting. Work zone from Route 1415 (Early Drive) to Route 259 (Lee Street), Monday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

Route 42 (North Main Street) at Route 617 (Church Street) in Timberville – Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

Route 259 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion end of summer.

Route 340 – Install new traffic signal at Route 1706 intersection. Flagger controlled traffic during daylight hours. Estimated completion Sept. 30, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane  closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Road closed to through traffic from McGaheysville Road to Lawyer Road (1.275 miles) for road demolition and reconstruction. One lane will remain open for property owners and residents only. No through traffic. Expect delays. Work this week will run Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion September 2013.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector. Possible shoulder closures controlled by signs, from 0.512 miles east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.149 miles west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge work from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 731 (Daniel Cupp Road) – Road closed to through traffic (excluding school buses) from 0.6 miles south of Route 742 for slope stabilization work, , 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion Sept. 6, 2013

Route 918 (Mill Street) – Closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Various roads (11, 42, 253, 257) – Mowing operations with slow moving vehicles. Estimated completion end of summer.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush clearing around signs. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – New traffic pattern as part of the bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway. Traffic has been routed onto new section of roadway, 0.1 mile south of Route 663 (Island Ford Road) to 0.16 mile south of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road). Expect daily lane closures and 24-hour shoulder closures. Estimated completion for bridge work is fall 2013.

Various roads (NEW) – Brush cutting and mowing operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 615, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

Route 654, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to Route 686. Signs will be posted.

Estimated completion fall 2013.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and shoulder repairs and hand mowing. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Various roads – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 11 and Route 42 (Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

Route 211 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 340 (NEW) – Alternating lane closures over North Fork of the Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. August 26 and 27, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Zepp Road) in Cedar Creek over Shell Run – Box culvert replacement. Width restriction is 10 feet and speed is reduced to 23 mph. Traffic controlled by flaggers during the day and stop and proceed at night. Estimated completion August 31, 2013.

Route 629 – Paving from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 675 (Stoney Creek Road near Columbia Furnace) – Alternating lane closures over Stoney Creek from 2.2 miles north of Route 682 to 0.3 miles south of Route 42 – subsurface drilling for future bridge replacement. August 20 to 23, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flaggers and traffic controls signs during work in travel lanes. NOTE: Tractor trailers should use alternate routes due to the narrow width of the single lane road and bridge.

Route 703 (Jerome Road, Conicville area) (NEW) – Road closed at 7 a.m. on August 21 for pipe replacement with estimated completion on August 22, 3:30 p.m.  Westbound traffic will detour northeast on Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road), north on Route 691 (Dellinger Acres Road), south on Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road),west on Route 611 (Supinlick Ridge Road) to end of detour.  Eastbound traffic will travel east on Route 611 (Supinlick Ridge Road), north on Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road), south on Route 691 (Dellinger Acres Road), west on Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road) to end of detour.

Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Various roads – Brush cutting and patching. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal shoulder/crossover repairs. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mile marker 301 to 306 – Alternating lane closures for paving and guardrail work. 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 13, 2013.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 17 (NEW) – Single lane closures over Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. Southbound lane closure, August 19, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Northbound lane closure, August 20, 8 a.m. to 4 p..m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads (NEW) – Mowing, Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 14.7, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and hand mowing. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mile marker 66 (NEW), eastbound – Single lane and shoulder closures over Shenandoah River for bridge inspections. August 28 and 29, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

Various roads (NEW) – Mowing, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
