VDOT has shared with us the updated schedule for road work and maintenance for Augusta County, Rockbridge County and Rockingham County for the week of June 30-July 3.

Interstate 64

  • Mile marker 97 to 87, westbound – Overnight single lane closures for pavement treatment, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through July 17.
  • Exit 99, eastbound – Narrowing of off-ramp for bridge painting, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through June 30.

Interstate 81

  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 220 to 222, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for barrier wall removal and guardrail installation, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through July 31. Shoulder closures in both directions 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 southbound auxiliary lane Expected completion in late summer 2025. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures southbound for bridge work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights Sunday through Thursday. Southbound exit 221 off-ramp to I-64 limited to a single lane as needed for overhead bridge work. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • Mile marker 222 to 220, southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through July 10.
  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 226 to 230, northbound and southbound – Overnight single-lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and daytime shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for bridge painting. Estimated completion August 31.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 229 to 232, northbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

*NEW* Route 11 (Lee Highway/Lee-Jackson Highway) – Northbound and southbound overnight mobile lane closures between Rockingham County line and Rockbridge County line for pavement marking, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday nights.

*NEW* Route 250 – Eastbound and westbound overnight mobile lane closures between Waynesboro city limits and Highland County line for soil/rock sampling, 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night.

Route 252 (Middlebrook Road) – Overnight mobile traffic control between Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) and Rockbridge County line for pavement marking, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nights through July 9.

Route 254 (Ivy Street, Waynesboro) – Shoulder closures between King Avenue and Waynesboro western city limits for underground utility work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through June 30.

*NEW* Route 635 (Barterbrook Road/Ramsey Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 639 (Wayne Avenue) and Staunton city limits for pavement marking, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. June 29 – June 10.

Route 635 (Mount Vernon Road) – Overnight flagger traffic control between Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) and Route 639 (Wayne Avenue) for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through night of July 30.

*NEW* Route 664 (Lyndhurst Road/Mount Torrey Road) – Flagger traffic control between Nelson County line and Waynesboro town limits for pavement marking, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 29 – July 10.

Route 664 (Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro) – Shoulder closures between Miami Avenue and Purdue Street through June 30 for paving work related to Waynesboro Southern Corridor project.

Route 710 (Edison Creek Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 709 (Smoky Row Road) and Route 708 (Glebe School Road) for replacement of bridge with concrete pipe, June 23 to July 2. Follow posted detour.

*UPDATE* Route 773 (Westview School Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 775 (Buttermilk Road) and Route 778 (Knightly Mill Road) for rock and soil testing, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday.

Route 5119 (Oak Lane, Waynesboro) – Local traffic only between Lyndhurst Road and Delphine Avenue through June 30 for paving work related to Waynesboro Southern Corridor project. Flagger traffic control for local drivers, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Through traffic will be detoured.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockbridge County


Interstate 81

  • Mile marker 189 to 195, northbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights through July 31. Overnight closures as needed on exit 191 entrance ramp from I-64 through July 2.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 192 to 198, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 195 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Mile marker 197 to 195, southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of July 6.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 201 to 203, northbound – Overnight left lane closure for spill cleanup, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday night.
  • Mile marker 204 to 205, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of July 10.

*NEW* Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound right lane closures for guardrail upgrades near I-64 interchange just north of Lexington, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.Route 11 Business (North Main Street, Lexington) – Flagger traffic control between Massie Street and Hook Lane for utility work, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic restrictions are for pedestrian-access improvement project with scheduled completion in August 2025.

*NEW* Route 56 (Tye River Turnpike) – Flagger traffic control for pavement patching at various locations between Route 608 (South River Road) and Nelson County line, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

  • Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures northbound for construction of equipment-access areas, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Tuesday night. Northbound and southbound left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.
  • Exit 240, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures along ramps to and from Route 257 for construction of additional turn lanes, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through August 1.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 242 to 243, northbound and southbound – Overnight right lane closures for inspection of bridge over Black Run, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night.
  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Only right turns allowed from off-ramp onto Route 33 from June 24 through mid-August. Occasional lane closures as needed, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Shoulder closures in place 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall 2026.

*NEW* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – Flagger traffic control at various locations between Route 806 (Lacey Spring Road and Route 765 (Gravels Road) for roadway testing, 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday night.

*NEW* Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Eastbound and westbound overnight single lane closures between Route 1167 (Confederacy Drive) and Route 829 (Independent Road/Mt. Hermon Road) for roadway testing, 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday night.

*NEW* Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1144 (Rorrer Circle) and West Virginia state line for roadway testing, 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday night.

Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Flagger traffic control between Laurel Woods Lane and Switzer Lake Road/Skidmore Fork for paving, line-painting and guardrail work related to road widening and curve improvements, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through July 1.

*UPDATE* Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Eastbound travel lane shifts at I-81 interchange begin Monday (June 30). Single-lane traffic between MLK Jr. Way and I-81 interchange. Two lanes in each direction between I-81 interchange and Linda Lane/Burgess Road. Be alert for travel-lane shifts. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge replacements and interchange improvement with expected completion in September 2026.

Route 211 (New Market Road, Timberville) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1514 (Virginia Avenue) and Route 1515 (Center Street) for excavation work, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through July 31.

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Temporary traffic signal between Route 1601 (New Haven Road) and Route 1605 (Water Street) for maintenance to North River bridge, 24/7 through June 30. Vehicle width restriction 11 feet.

Route 644 (Resort Drive) – Closed between Silverstone Lane and Woodstone Drive for paving operations and turn-lane construction, through about July 31. Follow posted detour.

Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) – Eastbound and westbound single lane closures between I-81 interchange and Route 867 (North River Road) for road widening project, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through July 1.

Route 724 (Melrose Road) – Mobile lane closures between Route 725 (Etna Road) and Route 11 (North Valley Pike) for tree trimming operations, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through July 1.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
