The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks.

vdot logoThe Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 9.6, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures and right shoulder closures as needed for bridge repair over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

Mile marker 16 to 7, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning of bridge slopes. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning paved ditches and removing debris.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control,Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 600 – Flagger control lane closures for I-81 bridge repairs over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes and removing debris.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 44 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for cleaning paved ditches and repairing markers.Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes, repairing mile marker signs and removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 180.8, southbound – Bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 1, 2013.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 182.2 – Northbound and southbound shoulder closures at Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) for bridge repair. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2013.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 183.7 – Northbound shoulder closures over Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) for bridge repair.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov.15, 2013.

(NEW) Mike markers 195 to 197 and 200 to 201.5 – Right and center lane closures Sunday, October 27 and Tuesday, October 29, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day, between mile markers 195 and 197 for milling and paving work. Additional, northbound left lane closures between mile markers 200 and 201.5 on Wednesday, October 30, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for drainage work. These closures are for work on the Truck Climbing Lane project.

 

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 173, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing operations.Wednesday to Saturday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Mowing with no lane closures, Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill), southbound – Right shoulder closure and flagger-controlled lane closures for repairs to southbound I-81 bridge. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 1, 2013.

Route 11 (South Lee Highway) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed for fiber optic cable installation. Flagger controlled traffic in work zone from the Natural Bridge Fire Station to 0.07 mile south of Route 680 (Falling Spring Road). Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 60 (East Nelson Street, Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is December 2013.

Various roads – Patching, pothole repairs, pipe replacement, ditching, tree removal and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) – Shoulder closure or flagger controlled lane closure as needed for repair of bridge over I-81 southbound.  Work zone is 0.10 mile from Route 11 to 1.8 miles to Route 680. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) – Shoulder or flagger controlled lane closures as needed for repair of bridge over I-81.  Work zone is 0.2 mile from Route 11 to 0.05 mile to Fancy Hill Lane. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2013.

Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Daytime lane closures for bridge work as part of the I-81 Truck Climbing Lane project. Route 710 traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, while crews work on the I-81 bridge deck. In addition, flaggers will temporarily hold traffic at various times during the work day as needed. Estimated completion November 2013.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – (Rural Rustic project) Pipe replacement with flagger traffic controlMonday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 642 (Laurel Fork Road) – Ditching, grading, adding stone where needed with flagger traffic control. Monday toFriday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Patching with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker exit 91 (Fishersville), westbound – left lane of I-64 will be closed for about 1,000 feet on either side of the interchange for abutment excavations Monday, October 28, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, cleaning paved ditches, cleaning bridge slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 217 to 214, southbound – Mobile closures for pavement testing on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Testing will take place on one lane until complete then switch to the other lane until testing is complete.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 205, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing operations.Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Mowing with no lane closures, Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville area with project-related work on Stover School Road, Church Street View Street, Palmer Street, Graham Street, Old Staunton Road as needed) – Northbound intermittent lane closures for sewer project.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 30, 2013.

Route 340 (North Delphine Avenue, Waynesboro) Lane closures and lane shifts as needed for milling and paving.Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion October 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road) – Flagger controlled traffic from 0.07 mile north of Route 794 to 0.25 mile south of Route 795 for Rural Rustic project. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 29, 2013.

(NEW) Route 652 (Wilda Road) – Preliminary work begins Oct. 28 followed by a road closure Nov. 4 to 8 to replace a box culvert for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Work zone is between Route 608 (Cold Springs Rd) and Route 657 (Indian Ridge Rd).  There will be a detour in place.

Route 662 (Stover School Road) – One lane closure as needed from Route 11 to View Street. Flaggers and signs in place to assist motorist. Estimated completion Nov. 30, 2013.

Route 701 (Howardsville Road) between Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) – Right shoulder closures with possible single lane closures for installation of right turn lane for C. Layman Subdivision. Mondayto Friday, 8.a.m. to 5.p.m.  Estimated completion end of October 2013.

Route 754 – Resurfacing project that will include pipe installation, construction of new ditch lines, grading of surfaces and paving operations – Shoulder and lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2013.

(NEW) Route 798 (Zion Church Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement over tributary of South River, Oct. 29 to Nov. 21, 2013. Work zone is 0.45 mile to Route 611 (Baynes Road) and 0.65 mile from Route 799 (Dalhousie Road).

Route 828 (Cattle Scales Road) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control. Expected completion October 2013. Route 916 (View Street) – Lane closures as needed for shoulder repair, from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south.  Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1050 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 1201 (Graham Street) – Possible lane closure for sewer work and tree removal in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Nov. 30, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 1202 (Church Street) – Possible lane closure for shoulder repair from Route 11 to Palmer Street. Estimated completion Nov. 30, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 1206 (Old Staunton Road) – Possible lane closure for sewer work in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Nov. 30, 2013.

Route 1316 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1427 (Brand Station Road) between Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and Route 638 (Desper Hollow Road) – Right shoulder closure and flagger controlled intermittent lane closures, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as needed for underground utility work. Work zone 0.94 mile west of Route 638 (Desper Hollow Road) to 0.18 mile of Staunton city limits. Estimated completion end of October 2013.

Route 1510 (Stuart Avenue, Stuarts Draft) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013.

Various roads – Mowing operations through November.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and slope repairs. Monday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 240 to 247 – “Slow roll” lane closures, Sunday, October 27, between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. for installation of overhead utility lines crossing I-81.  The northbound slow roll lane closure will begin at exit 240 (Mount Crawford/Bridgewater) and finish at exit 247 (Route 33). The southbound slow roll will start at exit 247 and finish at exit 240. During the operation flagging crews will control interstate access at the on-ramps for exits 243 and 245. The operation will utilize Virginia State Police and variable message boards. All work is weather permitting, and slow-roll times are subject to change.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 mile south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 42 (North Main Street) at Route 617 (Church Street) in Timberville – Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of October 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of October.

(UPDATE) Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) – Road closed for repairs to bridge over Pleasant Run. Estimated completion Oct. 28, 2013. The road will be closed from about 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., just east of the entrance to the Wal-Mart distribution center near Interstate 81. Traffic will be detoured as follows: Westbound drivers will take Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) north and Route 253 (Port Republic Road) west to Interstate 81. Eastbound drivers will follow I-81 north to exit 245, Route 253 east and Route 276 south to Route 682.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector. Possible shoulder closures controlled by signs, from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge work from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 918 (Mill Street) – Closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – New traffic pattern as part of the bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway. Traffic has been routed onto new section of roadway, 0.1 mile south of Route 663 (Island Ford Road) to 0.16 mile south of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road). Expect daily lane closures and 24-hour shoulder closures. Estimated completion for bridge work is fall 2013.

Various roads – Shoulder work. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 615, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

Route 654, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

(NEW) Route 684 (South Page Valley Road)/Route 717 (Page Valley Road) – Single lane closure for pipe replacement. Traffic controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion Oct. 13, 2013.

Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 mile south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 mile east on Route 662 to Route 686. Signs will be posted.

Estimated completion fall 2013.

(NEW) Route 717 (Page Valley Road)/Route 684 (South Page Valley Road) – Single lane closure for pipe replacement. Traffic controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion Oct. 13, 2013.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris and shoulder repair. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 and Route 42 (Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing, Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 – Paving from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

(NEW) Various roads – Grading, ditching and shoulder work, Monday to Friday.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal. Monday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 642 (Armel Road/Chrismore Road) – Road closed until October 28 for bridge deck replacement. Work zone from Armel Road, 0.4 mile east of Route 643 (Ritter Road in Frederick County to Chrismore Road, and 0.75 mile west of Route 644 (Gun Barrel Road) in Clarke County at the Clarke/Frederick county line.  All work weather permitting.  Detours:  Eastbound Route 642 (Armel Road) traffic use Route 643 (Ritter Road) west to Route 522 (Front Royal Pike), south to Route 646 (Reardon Road), east to Route 644 (Gun Barrel Road), north to Route 642.  Westbound Route 642 (Chrismore Road) traffic use Route 644 (Gun Barrel Road) south to Route 646 (Nations Spring Road), west to Route 522 (Front Royal Pike), north to Route 643 (Ritter Road), east to Route 642. 

Route 642 (Tasker Road) – Lane and shoulder closures at intersection with route 636 (White Oak Road) for installation of new traffic signal. Flagger controlled traffic 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion November 15.

(NEW) Various roads – Pipe cleaning, Monday to Friday.

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Ave./South Greenway Ave., Town of Boyce) – Alternating, single lane closures, eastbound and westbound, for soil testing pavement assessment. November 6 and 7, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work zone is 300 feet north of intersection with Hudson Court to intersection of Old Waterloo Road. Traffic controlled by flaggers and traffic signs.

Various roads – Mowing, Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 642 (Armel Road/Chrismore Road) – Road closed for bridge deck replacement. Estimated completion October 28. PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 mile north. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
