vcu men's basketballTre Clark, a standout at Newton High School in Covington, Ga., as well as the Team EAT AAU program, signed a National Letter of Intent with VCU Wednesday and will join the Rams for the 2019-20 season.

A 6-foot-3 combo guard, Clark burst onto the scene with an outstanding summer on the AAU circuit last year, as well a brilliant senior season at Newton under Coach Rick Rasmussen in 2018-19 in which he averaged 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and nearly three steals. Clark led Newton to a 22-8 record this season and to the second round of the GHSA AAAAAAA State Tournament. He was named AAAAAAA All-State by Hoopseen.com.

“We’re really excited to have Tre and his family as a part of VCU Basketball,” said VCU Head Coach Mike Rhoades. “He’s exactly what we’re looking for in our student-athletes. He comes from a very good high school basketball program and will add to what we’ll do in the future. He is a combo guard who can make plays at all three levels and brings skill and athleticism to our approach.”

A dynamic scorer, Clark poured in 32 points and dished out 10 assists earlier this season in a win over Greater Atlanta Christian at the Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic in December. Clark averaged 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in three games at the Tournament of Champions. He erupted for another 32-point effort, including 25 in the second half alone, on Jan. 13 in a win over Eastside. He also scored 24 points on Feb. 8 in the Rams Region 8 semifinal victory over Shiloh.

Clark joins Jarren McAllister (Wake Forest, N.C./Massanutten Military Academy), who signed with VCU in November, in the Rams 2019 recruiting class.

VCU finished 25-8 and captured the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title in Rhoades’ second season. The Rams are expected to welcome back four starters and 11 letter winners in 2019-20.
