Subaru check presentThe Blue Ridge Area Food Bank will be able to provide local families in need with an additional 72,000 meals, thanks to an $18,000 donation from Valley Subaru.

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) was selected by Valley Subaru to participate in Subaru’s “Share the Love” program. The annual event allows new car buyers to select one of five charities – four chosen by Subaru and a local charity chosen by the dealer – to receive a $250 donation per vehicle in November and December.

Valley Subaru President Scott Simons presented the check on Jan. 14 to food bank CEO Michael McKee and John Downey, chair of BRAFB’s board of directors.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to participate as a hometown charity and as a result can provide thousands of meals to our hungry neighbors,” the food bank’s McKee said. “Thank you to Valley Subaru for working with us to provide nutritious food to families in real need and to the customers who chose to direct the donation to the Food Bank.

Hunger remains a real problem in the Shenandoah Valley, even when the economy feels better to many of us. The involvement of the local business community is critical to BRAFB’s mission to ensure that people in our region have enough to eat.

“Valley Subaru was pleased to select BRAFB as our hometown Share the Love charity,” said dealership president Simons. “We have had a successful past relationship with BRAFB, and Valley Subaru, along with our other Staunton dealerships, love giving back to the community. BRAFB does a wonderful job providing food for Valley residents, and it is truly a privilege to work with this great organization.”
