Valley Fourth, Harrisonburg’s quintessential 4th of July celebration, is seeking entries for the annual “Get Outdoors” Parade. The parade will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. along Main Street in Downtown Harrisonburg. The parade route will travel South on Main Street, from the Rockingham County Administration Building to the City Municipal Building.
The Valley Fourth parade is one of the most anticipated events at this full-day festival. This year’s theme, “Get Outdoors,” is meant to promote the beauty of our area while encouraging attendees to get outdoors and enjoy the wide array of recreational opportunities available.
“The Shenandoah Valley is highly acclaimed for our outdoor treasures,” says Kim Kirk, special events manager at Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance.
Harrisonburg has been designated an Appalachian Trail Community, a Ride Center by the International Mountain Bike Association, and, most recently, a Bicycle Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists. The city has also been named best biking community by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine and best city to raise an outdoor kid by Backpacker Magazine. “We invite community organizations, clubs, local businesses and individuals to help us celebrate these achievements while demonstrating their patriotic spirit,” Kirk adds.
Parade participants are encouraged to design a parade entry that will highlight some of the outdoor recreation opportunities in the area and inspire the thousands of people attending the event to spend more time playing in nature. Entry forms are available at DowntownHarrisonburg.org/
In addition to the parade, Valley Fourth attendees can expect to enjoy a full day of activities, including the inaugural Grillin’ at the Pavilion Cook-off, Beers ‘N Cheers in the Park, live music, children’s activities, a fireworks finale, and more!
Valley Fourth, organized and presented by Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, is the largest community celebration in Harrisonburg, drawing more than 8,000 residents and visitors to downtown each year. All Valley Fourth activities are provided to the public thanks to the participation and cooperation of local businesses, organizations, and volunteers.
