virginia lacrosseThe UVA women’s lacrosse team (9-8) earned its 21st consecutive NCAA Championship bid, securing an at-large berth in the 26-team Championship field. The Cavaliers will open the tournament by taking on Johns Hopkins (10-7) on Friday (May 13) at 4 p.m. in College Park, Md.

The winner of Friday’s game will advance to play No. 1 seed Maryland (19-0) on Sunday at noon in the second round. The games will be played at Maryland’s Field Hockey & Lacrosse Stadium.

UVA and Johns Hopkins have met once in the NCAA Championship, with the Cavaliers earning a 10-8 victory in the first round in 2005. Virginia is 3-2 all-time against the Blue Jays.

This will be Virginia’s 29th overall trip to the NCAA Championship, ranking second in the nation with 59 tournament games played. The Cavaliers own a 34-25 record in NCAA Tournament games, tying for the second most wins in the nation behind Maryland.

Virginia has earned an NCAA bid in each of head coach Julie Myers’ 21 seasons at the helm of the program. In 2015, the Cavaliers fell to Penn State, 13-11, in the NCAA Second Round at home.

All information regarding tickets, how to purchase tickets in advance, parking, directions, etc. can be found at umterps.com. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for youth (3-17) and seniors (62 & older).

Four quarterfinal games will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Saint Joseph’s University May 27 and 29 at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia.
