uva lacrosseUVA women’s lacrosse head coach Julie Myers has announced the hiring of Lindsay Rogers as an assistant coach. Additionally, Marissa Peterson has joined the staff as the director of operations.

Rogers, a three-time captain as a player at Syracuse, was voted the 2008 Big East Defender of the Year and will work primarily with Virginia’s defenders. The second-team IWLCA All-American helped lead the Orange to back-to-back Big East titles in 2007 and 2008. Rogers won a then-program record 56 draw controls in her senior season.

Since graduating, Rogers has coached various levels of lacrosse, coaching last season at Canisius College.Previously, Rogers served as an assistant coach at Rochester Institute of Technology. Rogers also served as a head coach Rochester’s Relentless Hustle Lacrosse Club. She also has coached overseas at St. Georges VA School in the United Kingdom.

“Lindsay is a very exciting hire for us,” said Myers said. “She played at a really high level at Syracuse after being a highly sought-after high school recruit. In college, she moved from playing attack to playing defense, which really helped her figure out how to make a defense work and what each player needed to bring. She really has the fundamentals on how to build a defense and make it shine. Lindsay has been an awesome addition to the program and has made great contributions already while working with the team during Fall Ball.”

Peterson joined the Cavalier staff in September as the director of operations after graduating in May from penn state University with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations with a concentration in public relations. As an undergraduate, she worked as an administrative assistant in the Nittany Lion football office, helping with general office duties as well as assisting in recruiting management.  Last summer, she interned with the Aspire Group at the University of Maryland as a sales associate intern.

“We are really excited to get a recent penn state graduate who has worked many, many hours in the football office the last couple of years,” Myers said. “She comes with great knowledge, enthusiasm and excitement, which is the perfect combination of what our program needs right now.”

Rogers replaces Jessy Morgan on the staff. Morgan left UVa in August after she accepted the head coaching position at George Mason. Peterson replaces Jess Wilk-Strosburg, who has transitioned to a different administrative role within the Virginia athletics department.
