Virginia won its fourth consecutive contest and remained undefeated at home this season with a 92-43 victory over Radford at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday (Dec. 18).

The victory improved Virginia’s record to 9-2, the program’s best start since beginning the 2008-09 season with a 14-2 record.

With the loss, Radford’s record went to 6-4.

Junior reserve guard Lexie Gerson (Fort Washington, Pa.) matched a career-high with 19 points to lead five Cavaliers in double figures. Gerson finished the game 6-for-8 from the field, including 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line, and added four assists and four steals.

Sophomore forward Jazmin Pitts (Mosely, Va.) scored 16 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field. Junior forward Telia McCall (Marietta, Ga.) added 13 points and tied for the team high with seven rebounds.

Gerson, Pitts and McCall helped the Cavalier bench account for a season-high 55 points.

Senior guard Ariana Moorer (Woodbridge, Va.) extended her double-digit scoring streak to nine games and finished with 10 points, while sophomore guard Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) also chipped in 10 points.

Virginia rebounded from a 8-0 deficit in the early minutes, scoring 10 unanswered points to take a 10-8 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play by Shine. Virginia then followed up with a 15-2 run to take a 25-12 lead on another three-point play, this time by Franklin.

At halftime, the ‘Hoos led, 44-20.

For the game, Virginia forced 31 turnovers and scored 36 points off of those turnovers. The Cavaliers have now limited six straight opponents to less than 60 points.

The Cavaliers won their sixth consecutive contest over the Highlanders and pulled the all-time series record even at 7-7.

Virginia faces its fourth consecutive in-state opponent, James Madison, on Tuesday (Dec. 20). Tip-off at John Paul Jones Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
