UVA Tennis: Ryan Shane’s wild-card entry into US Open made official

Chris Graham

uva-logo-new2UVA senior men’s tennis player Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) was officially awarded a wild card into the men’s singles main draw of the 2015 US Open.

Shane earned his wild card entry by capturing the 2015 NCAA Singles Championship last may in Waco, Texas. Shane is one of eight players to earn a wild card into this year’s event, joining US Open Champion Lleyton Hewitt as well Jared Donaldson, Bjorn Fratangelo, Ryan Harrison, Austin Krajicek, Frances Tiafoe and Pierre-Hughes Herbert as players to earn wild cards in the main draw, which begins on Aug. 31 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Each of the world’s top 99-ranked men received direct entry into the US Open earlier this summer. Five other players used their protected ranking for entry into the 128-player field, and the final 16 spots will be determined at the US Open Qualifying Tournament, held the week before the main draw begins.

2015 US Open men’s and women’s singles draws will be revealed on Thursday, Aug. 27.
