UVA Tennis: Cassie Mercer claims singles, doubles titles at ITA Summer Circuit event

UVA rising sophomore Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) claimed the singles and doubles titles at the UNC Charlotte ITA Summer Circuit event at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on Tuesday (July 21).

The top-seeded Mercer went 5-0 en route to the singles title. She defeated Orla Labiche (6-0, 6-3), East Carolina’s Maria Storozheva (walkover), Davidson’s Ava Todd (6-2, 6-2), Mississippi’s Brooke Stevens (6-1, 6-3) and Furman’s Ansley Speaks (7-5, 6-1) in the championship match.

Mercer and Speaks went 4-0 to claim the doubles title. The duo defeated Virginia Tech’s Katherine Butler and Stevens 8-2 in the final.
