#14 Virginia scored 10 runs in the first, and coasted from there to a 10-0 win over Hampton on Tuesday at Palmer Park.

The ’Hoos (23-2) sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, with Macee Eaton delivering an RBI double and a two-run homer, her ninth of the season, in the frame.

Taylor Smith (4-0) picked up the victory for Virginia, striking out seven and allowing one hit with one walk in 3.0 innings of work in the start.

Eden Bigham closed out the final 2.0 innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out three.

Ava Lester (2-2) took the loss for the Pirates (5-14), allowing four runs on four hits in the start.

“We talked about how success today would not be defined by the scoreboard, but how intently we executed our processes,” UVA coach Joanna Hardin said. “It’s great to be at home. We love playing at Palmer Park, and we look forward to seeing our fans at the ballpark on a beautiful weekend for a big series against Georgia Tech.”

As Hardin foreshadowed there, Virginia continues to play at home this weekend with a three-game set against Georgia Tech.

The series begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and continues with Game 2 at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The three-game set will conclude with a game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
