Reagan Hickey hit a two-run blast in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie, lifting #23 Virginia to what we can hope is a mood-changing 3-1 win over NC State on Friday at Palmer Park.

The ‘’Hoos (34-12, 11-10 ACC) had lost nine of their previous 11 coming in.

NC State (25-21, 6-12 ACC) took the early lead, getting an RBI single from Morgan Talley to score Lily Livingston, who had led off the third inning with a triple.

Virginia tied the game in the fourth inning when Kelsey Hackett laced a single down the third base line to score Macee Eaton from second.

Courtney Layne (11-4) picked up the win in relief, working the final 3.0 innings. She allowed two hits and struck out one in the outing.
