UVA linebacker Henry Coley honored by ACC

Coley_Henry_11MUVA inside linebacker Henry Coley was named ACC Linebacker of the Week for games played through Sept. 1.
The weekly ACC honor is the first for the senior from Virginia Beach, Va. Coley led UVa with 14 tackles, tying a career high. He also added 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, forced a fumble and broke up one pass as the Cavaliers halted No. 7 UCLA’s vaunted offense for much of the afternoon.
Coley spearheaded a defense that allowed only one offensive touchdown by UCLA and helped the Cavaliers amass 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks against the Bruins. Only two teams nationally had more tackles for loss during the opening weekend of the season, while three teams had more sacks than what the Cavaliers accumulated against the Bruins.
The signal caller for Virginia’s defensive front, Coley made the formation calls that allowed the Cavaliers to sack UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley and force him out of the pocket numerous times. UCLA averaged 3.0 rushing yards per carry and was just 7‐for‐18 on third down conversions. UCLA drives totaled 25 yards or less on 11 of 16 possessions.
Coley becomes the first Cavalier to win ACC Linebacker of the Week honors since Steve Greer was honored for his play the final week of the 2012 season.
