UVA senior men’s golfer Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) and sophomore Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) advanced to the match play portion of the 114th U.S. Amateur Championships taking place in Johns Creek, Ga., at the Atlanta Athletic Club. McCarthy completed the 36 holes of stroke play tied for 20th at 2-under 141. Bard shot 1-under 142 to tie for 24th place.
