Pitt, coming off its first loss of the 2024 season, a 48-25 beatdown at SMU last night in a game that wasn’t that close, will host UVA Football, coming off a bye, in prime time this week.

The Pitt-UVA game is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff on the ACC Network, the ACC announced on Sunday.

Pitt (7-1, 3-1 ACC) was down 31-3 at halftime in the heavyweight matchup with SMU (8-1, 5-0 ACC), and only made the score look better by putting up 300 yards of total offense in the second half, scoring two touchdowns in the final four minutes in garbage time.

Virginia (4-4, 2-3 ACC) has lost three straight, the most recent defeat a 41-14 pummeling by North Carolina on Oct. 26.

The losing skid started with a 24-20 loss to Louisville on Oct. 12, in a game the ‘Hoos led in the final two minutes, but were not able to close out.

Louisville (6-3, 4-2 ACC) upset Clemson (6-2, 5-1 ACC) last night by a 33-21 final, upending the ACC title race in the process.

That result now seems to put Miami (9-0, 5-0 ACC) and SMU on a collision course toward an ACC Championship Game matchup next month in Charlotte.

Both have favorable schedules in November.

Miami is on the road at Georgia Tech (5-4, 3-3 ACC) next week, then gets Wake Forest (4-4, 2-2 ACC) at home before wrapping the regular season at Syracuse (6-2, 3-2 ACC).

SMU finishes with Boston College (4-4, 1-3 ACC), at Virginia and then with Cal (4-4, 0-4 ACC) at home.

ESPN Analytics gives Virginia an 18.9 percent chance of pulling the upset over SMU at home in that Nov. 23 matchup.

The Cavaliers have a 23.6 percent chance of an upset at Pitt next week, a 4.4 percent chance of winning at Notre Dame (7-1) on Nov. 16, and a 19.9 percent chance of winning at Virginia Tech (5-4, 3-2 ACC) in their Nov. 30 regular-season finale.

Three weekends ago, UVA Football was two minutes away from a 5-1 start.

Now the ESPN Analytics folks give the program at 13.5 percent chance of getting to six wins and bowl eligibility.
