AlbertReidHSMaryland running back Albert Reid (Washington, D.C.) has announced he will transfer to UVA for his final two seasons of football eligibility.

Reid is scheduled to graduate from Maryland in July with a degree in criminology and criminal justice and will be able to play immediately for the Cavaliers. He will enroll in a graduate program in the Curry School of Education for the fall semester and participate in preseason practice with the team in August.

“Albert’s addition to our running back corps will make that group better,” said Virginia football head coach Mike London. “He is a player with substantial college experience who is a downhill, direct runner and he’s very physical. Albert has been a member of Maryland’s leadership council, which shows he is well respected by his teammates.”

Reid spent three seasons at Maryland and appeared in four games in 2014 with one start before suffering an injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the campaign. Reid received a medical hardship for the 2014 season and will have two seasons of eligibility for the Cavaliers.

Reid appeared in 28 career games at Maryland with four starts, amassing 447 career yards on 122 carries with three touchdowns. Reid also collected 15 career receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Reid is a 2012 graduate of Friendship Collegiate Academy where he was a four-star prospect where he racked up 1,705 yards and 17 total touchdowns his senior year for the Knights. He was listed as the 25th-best running back in the nation by Scout.com and was the 2011 Washington, D.C. Gatorade Player of the Year.
