UVA cornerback Bryce Hall was named to the Football Writers Association’s All-America team. The FWAA made the announcement Monday (Dec. 10) on ESPNU Radio’s “Off Campus” show with Mark Packer on SiriusXM Radio. Hall was a second-team All-America selection.
Hall was previously named a second-team All-American last week by the Walter Camp Foundation. The FWAA is one of five outlets the NCAA recognizes in compiling its annual consensus All-America squad. The others are the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Associated Press, The Sporting News and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The Sporting News will release its All-America team on Tuesday and the AFCA will release its team on Wednesday.
This is the third year in a row a Cavalier has been named to the FWAA All-America team. Micah Kiser was a second-team honoree in 2016 and 2017. Quin Blanding joined Kiser in 2017 as a second-team recipient. Hall is the 16th Cavalier to earn All-America honors from the FWAA and is the first defensive back since Anthony Poindexter in 1998.
Hall (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa.) leads the nation with 20 pass breakups and is No. 2 in the nation with 22 passes defended. He boasts 59 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two interceptions, forced two fumbles and recovered another fumble. Hall was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week after making five tackles, breaking up three passes and intercepting another at Duke. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranks him No. 4 in the nation among defensive backs in regards to forcing an incompletion and he is the highest graded ACC cornerback through 12 games, per PFF.
Previously, Hall also been honored as a first-team All-ACC cornerback, was named an honorable mention All-American by PFF and is the Touchdown Club of Richmond’s Defensive Back of the Year.
