UVa. football adds two-game series with Boise State

uva-logo-new2Virginia and Boise State will meet in football for a two-game series in 2015 and 2017, the schools jointly announced today. The teams are scheduled to meet Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, in Charlottesville and Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, in Boise, Idaho.

“We’re excited to announce this series with a program that has been exceptional over the last decade,” said Virginia Executive Associate Athletics Director Jon Oliver. “They’ve done it with great coaching, solid recruiting and a fearless approach to competition. We are trying to do the same thing, and this will be an incredible challenge for us as we continue to build our program. The 2015 and 2017 seasons could end up being two of the toughest schedules in the history of our football program, and we hope they will excite and energize our fans, student-athletes and recruits.”

Boise State has been one of the most successful BCS football programs over the last 11 seasons. The Broncos have finished in the top-20 of the Associated Press poll nine times during that span and won nine conference titles since 2002. Over that nine-year period the Broncos have produced a record of 129-15 (.896), appeared in 11 consecutive bowl games and won seven of those postseason contests.

Current Boise State head coach Chris Petersen is 84-8 since taking over the Boise State program in 2006.

This will be the first meeting between Virginia and Boise State in football.
