UVA field hockey announces 2018 schedule

UVA AthleticsThe UVA field hockey team announced its 2018 schedule this week, with the Cavaliers slated to play seven regular-season home games at Turf Field.

UVA will face a challenging schedule that features nine teams that were in the field of the 2017 NCAA championships Virginia, the defending ACC regular-season champion, will begin the season with a pair of road games at Drexel (Aug 24) and Penn State (Aug. 26) before opening a three-game homestand against Longwood on Sept. 9 that also includes visits from Syracuse (Sept. 7) and Old Dominion (Sept. 9). The home schedule also includes game against Louisville (Sept. 29), Miami (Ohio) (Oct. 7), Wake Forest (Oct. 19) and Maryland (Oct. 21).

The postseason begins Nov. 1 with North Carolina hosting the 2018 ACC Tournament. For the second straight year, Louisville’s Trager Stadium be the site of the NCAA semifinals and championship game.

The Cavaliers return a solid core of players from last year’s squad that captured the ACC regular-season title for the second time in the last four years.

The team will be anchored by senior goalkeeper Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.), striker Izzy McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.) and midfielders Greta Ell (Plains, Pa.) and Nikki Freeman (Downington, Pa.) The incoming freshman class includes one member of the US Women’s National Indoor Team, three members of the US U19 Indoor Team, four players on the US U19 Junior National Team as well as a member of the Dutch U18 junior national squad.

Admission is free for all regular-season field hockey home games.
