virginia footballUVA senior cornerback Maurice Canady (Richmond, Va.) was selected by the Baltimore Ravens during Saturday’s sixth round of the National Football League Draft. Canady was the 209th overall pick.

It marks the 33rd consecutive year (dating back to 1984) a Virginia player has been drafted. The streak is tied for the second longest in the ACC.

Canady is the first Cavalier drafted by the Baltimore Ravens since 2014 when defensive tackle Brent Urban was taken in the fourth round. Canady is the fifth Cavalier all-time to be drafted by the Baltimore Ravens.

Canady, a NFL Combine and Senior Bowl participant, started all 12 games as a senior and finished his UVA career with 35 career starts, including the Cavaliers’ last 25 contests in a row. Canady, a second-team All-ACC performer in 2014 finished his UVA career with 148 tackles and five interceptions.

An explosive returner, Canady recorded UVA’s fifth-longest punt return for a touchdown in 2015 with a 75-yard sprint against William & Mary. Canady returned a blocked field goal 65 yards in 2014 against Miami, the longest blocked field goal return in program history.
