UVA basketball slips a spot in national polls after Duke loss

uva basketballUVA suffered its first loss of the 2014-2015 season Saturday night, and dropped a spot in both national polls in the aftermath.

Virginia (19-1, 7-1 ACC) slipped from two to three in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls following its 69-63 loss to Duke, which held its #4 ranking in the AP poll and dropped a spot to #5 in the coaches poll, likely by virtue of its loss earlier last week to Notre Dame, which was upset on Saturday at unranked Pitt.

Kentucky (21-0) remains in the top spot in both polls. Gonzaga (22-1) moved up a spot in both to #2.

Louisville, which plays at UVA on Saturday, is ninth in the AP poll and 10th in the USA Today poll after beating North Carolina in overtime on Saturday. North Carolina, which hosts Virginia tonight in Chapel Hill, is #13 in the coaches poll and #14 in the AP poll after the loss at Louisville.

Notre Dame is #10 in the AP poll and #8 in the coaches poll. The Irish will play at Duke on Saturday in a quick-turnaround Top 10 rematch.

Miami dropped out of both national polls after losing 55-54 to unranked Florida State on Sunday.
