The first thing that our AFP colleague Scott German noticed with the 2025-2026 UVA Basketball ACC schedule: the game at Virginia Tech is over the winter break.
That would be a huge break for the ‘Hoos, given how tough Cassell Coliseum can be when Tech fans actually show up for games – which is pretty much for Virginia, Duke or UNC, but nobody else.
Not to say that the kids wouldn’t want to be back in Blacksburg for Tech-UVA, but the date designation could get in the way – right now, it’s either going to be Tuesday, Dec. 30, or Wednesday, Dec. 31, presumably the uncertainty being because we’re waiting to see how they want to treat the game for TV.
A midday game either day might be played in front of a sellout crowd of fans disguised as empty seats.
Other things we noticed:
- We did our time in the barrel having to travel out west last season, so our Cal and Stanford games this year are both at home – Cal Jan. 6/7, so, mid-week, and Stanford on Jan. 10, a Saturday. How about we schedule that one for a noon ET tip, just for giggles?
- There are 18 ACC schools, and the conference schedule is 18 games, but for some reason, we’re playing two schools in home-and-homes – Tech and NC State – and we don’t get Clemson. I’m guessing it’s hard to balance things out with making sure everybody gets nine home and nine road games in conference play. Just a guess; I haven’t seen it explained anywhere.
- UNC is at home (Jan. 24, a Saturday, good home scheduling there), Duke is on the road (Feb. 28, also a Saturday, good if you want to make a road trip).
- We not only open with Virginia Tech, we close with Virginia Tech (Saturday, March 7).
