A foot or more of snow is in the forecast for Central Virginia on Saturday, which matters to UVA Basketball because, the biggest home game of the year is scheduled for, yep, Saturday.
Also, come on, they’re doing this big thing for Tony Bennett!
The timing, obviously, is the key – it looks, right now, like snow showers are expected to start Saturday afternoon; the hoops game with rival North Carolina has a scheduled 2 p.m. ET tip window, so, that’s also Saturday afternoon.

- Experts: More than a foot of snow possible this weekend in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
I reached out to UVA Athletics to get a sense of the thinking on the schedule for Saturday, and the word back: “we’re monitoring the situation.”
The UNC team would be getting in town on Friday, so that’s not the issue; it would be the trip back to Chapel Hill by bus, disembarking from Charlottesville as soon after the game would end in the 4 p.m. ET hour as can be done.
The forecast for Chapel Hill for Saturday has a wintry mix starting in the afternoon, turning to a mix of sleet and freezing rain, with 1-3 inches of snow and ice expected.
Personally, I’d rather have the foot of snow than I would the ice, from a travel perspective.
We’re still a couple of days out; the forecast will get firmed up, and give the schools, the ACC and ESPN ample time to figure out what to do.
