uva basketballUVA basketball ends the 2014-2015 season ranked eighth in the final USA Today Coaches poll. The Cavs (30-4) had spent more than half the season ranked in the top four of the rankings, but dropped in the final two weeks with a loss in their regular-season finale at Louisville, a loss in the ACC Tournament semifinals to North Carolina and then an upset loss to Michigan State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia was the highest-ranked team in the final poll to lose before the Elite Eight. Villanova (33-3), which was also upset in the Round of 32, was ranked ninth.

Duke (35-4), which won the national title Monday night with a 68-63 defeat of Wisconsin, was ranked #1, but the Blue Devils were not a unanimous #1. Wisconsin (36-4) was ranked second, and Kentucky (38-1) was third, with the Wildcats getting two first-place votes in the poll.

Arizona (34-4) was fourth, Notre Dame (32-6) was fifth, Gonzaga (35-3) was sixth, and Michigan State (27-12) was seventh after making it all the way to the Final Four following its upset of UVA.

Louisville (27-9) rounded out the Top 10. North Carolina (26-12) was ranked #12. NC State (22-14), which upset Villanova before falling to Louisville in the Sweet Sixteen, also cracked the poll at #24.

The ACC placed six teams in the Top 25.
