Update in Augusta County murder: Victim ID’d

policeThe victim in Saturday’s homicide on Morris Mill Road in Augusta County has been identified as 50-year-old Christopher Jon Miller of Bridgewater.

Miller was shot to death at the home of his fiancée at approximately 9:15 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, Christopher Luke Simmons, 36, of Staunton, entered the home prior to Miller and his fiancée arriving home, and waited for them in hiding.  Simmons confronted the couple at gunpoint prior to discharging his firearm multiple times.

He subsequently shot Miller in the living room.  Miller succumbed to his injuries prior to the arrival of deputies.

Simmons has been charged with first-degree Murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.  He is currently being held in Middle River Regional Jail without bond.

Simmons appeared in the Augusta County General District Monday for a bond hearing and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 2, 2017.
