Five Richmond athletic teams were recognized by the NCAA on Wednesday for ranking in the top 10 in the nation for their respective sports in Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
Richmond’s men’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s outdoor track & field, women’s soccer and women’s swimming & diving were all recognized by the NCAA.
This year, the Atlantic 10 conference set a record with 60 teams recognized, as each of the league’s 14 members had at least one team earn public recognition based on scores compiled through the 2013-14 academic year. The conference ranked fifth in total number of teams honored among all 32 Division I conferences.
UR ranked third among the A-10 schools with its five athletic teams honored.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of every student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
