Two UVA swimmers named to USA National Team

UVA AthleticsOne current and one former member of the UVA swimming and diving team were named to the USA Swimming National Team roster, as announced by USA Swimming.

Redshirt senior Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.) qualified for the national team in the open water swim earlier this summer. Casey recorded a time of 1:48.09.39 in the 10k at the USA Open Water National Championships, placing fourth in the event.

Former Cavalier Leah Smith (class of 2017) qualified in five events- the women’s 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle and 400m individual medley. She competed with the U.S. team at the Pan Pacific Championships, earning three bronze medals and one silver medal.

Additionally, Virginia head coach Todd DeSorbo and associate head coach Tyler Fenwick were named national team coaches.
