Tractor trailer takes out tree on South Wayne Avenue

Tree Hit & Run Wayne Ave 2The Waynesboro Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public to identify the hit and run driver who severely damaged a city ash tree earlier today on South Wayne Avenue.

At 3:36 p.m., the Waynesboro Emergency Operations Center received a call about a large tree limb that was in the road blocking the northbound lanes of the South Wayne Ave near the intersection with 11th Street.  When officers arrived, a witness indicated that a tractor trailer had come through and hit the a large limb shearing it off.

Officers were able to move it from the roadway.  The city horticulturalist deemed the tree unviable.

The witness described the vehicle as a white 18 wheeler with “J Bars” on the side with a partial tag of “M P 5373.”
