Tom Garrett weighs in on final Benghazi report

tom garrettThe House Select Committee on Benghazi released its final report on the attack on the American Embassy in Benghazi in 2012 that left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Fifth District Republican congressional nominee Tom Garrett offered strong comments on the report.

“As a former soldier, I am appalled at both Secretary Clinton and President Obama’s lack of concern over the lives lost by our servicemen in Libya. As a former prosecutor, I am ashamed to see the highest-ranking officials in our government twist the law. As a legislator, I am disappointed to see the current administration put politics over our nation’s security,” Garrett said. “We are fighting a war against an enemy set on destroying our way of life and if we do not support those who sacrifice their lives and well being to defend our nation, we will not defeat this enemy. “

Garrett went on to say that “anyone who wonders whether what happened in Benghazi is relevant four years latershould know this… to me this is relevant so long as Hillary Clinton is relevant and so long as she and those who let these brave Americans die without lifting a finger are not held accountable.”

He continued, “the fact that while she and the President trumpeted a false narrative about a YouTube video whilst telling global leaders another story is all the proof I need to know that here, political expedience trumped protecting those who protect us, not to mention the truth.

Garrett served five years in the United States Army prior to his tenure as Louisa County Commonwealth’s Attorney and subsequent tenure as a Virginia state senator in the General Assembly.
