lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesA weekday series sweep of the Washington Nationals had Baltimore knocking on the door of an American League wild-card berth. A weekend of utter futility in Boston has all but eliminated the Orioles from playoff contention.

Henry Owens and three Sox relievers shut out Baltimore on five hits, and the O’s leave Beantown with a third straight scoreless defeat after the 2-0 whitewash on Sunday.

Owens (4-3, 3.84 ERA) walked one and allowed three hits in seven and two-thirds inning, striking out five.

Ubaldo Jimenez (12-10, 4.10 ERA) gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings of work, striking out six and walking one.

The Orioles (76-79) are five games back of Houston for the second AL wild-card spot with seven games to go in the 2015 season.
