The Rumor Mill | Surprise city treasurer candidate

Chris Graham

Just to be clear, this isn’t a rumor. City budget director Pat Nicosia is getting ready to announce her bid for the treasurer post possibly as early as this week. How I know this is I signed her ballot-access petition on Tuesday.

“I’m nervous and excited,” said Nicosia, who was the first to fill the budget-direction position after it was created in the tenure of former city manager Doug Walker.

No word yet on whether incumbent Treasurer Sandee Dixon is planning to run for re-election. Dixon has come under the scutiny of Waynesboro City Council with a 2006 audit of her office that was critical of the office’s accounting practices and a subsequent embezzlement investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of one of Dixon’s former deputy treasurers.

The treasurer office is one of four local constitutional offices up for re-election in the November general election.
