The best pizza shops for recent college grads, according to Yelp ratings

A basic rite of passage as a college student transferring into adulthood is moving out, but the fact is, most of these recent grads don’t have the funds for a luxury like professional movers. So what do they do? Well, they turn to the goodwill of others and engage in a more affordable quid pro quo arrangement- “If you help me move, I’ll buy you pizza and beer.” According to this study, these are the most popular pizza places for former college students to bribe their friends after a long day of hoisting furniture and running boxes up and down stairs.

New York City had the most iconic result when it comes to affordable, inexpensive comfort food. The best pizza for college grads in the Big Apple comes from 99 Cent Pizza, a cost-effective option that still delivers the iconic, greasy slice we all crave. College towns tend to favor the classic, New York slice, and many of the most popular options for pizza consumption are your average, Italian restaurants, delivering that classic pizza option.

Somewhat surprisingly, Chicago style deep dish wasn’t the most popular pizza option in the Midwest, the region from which it came! On the contrary, the Western region is the biggest fan of the deep dish option, and the Midwest opted for New York style pizza more often than not. Maybe they decided that trying to consume deep dish while your table and utensils are being unpacked isn’t the easiest process? Who’s to know!

Of course, most of these restaurants are classic Italian options, but there are also plenty of taverns (kill two birds with one stone and get your beer with your pizza!), delis, and pubs on this list to round out the options. New York Style pizza reigned supreme as the most popular pizza style, so if you’re looking for the best pizza in your new hometown, stick with what works.

Moving after college is one of the biggest hurdles students have to overcome. Aside from being thrust into the real world after years of being told what to do by teachers and professors, suddenly there are bills to pay, deadlines to meet, student loans to pay off, and finding a new network in a brand new city. But rest assured, one thing will remain the same no matter where you live or what your situation is: nothing will ever taste better after a long day of moving than a great piece of pizza and a cold beer. So now you know where to place your order to convince your friends that moving your boxes is a good way to spend their Saturday. It’s bribery at its finest.
