LOSERS: The BCS
Did you read about how the BCS blocked a Virginia Tech-Oklahoma Orange Bowl that the schools and the bowl wanted?
I’m thisclose to boycotting college football altogether. It’s the best sport in the world September-through-early December. Then it’s a series of glorified exhibitions.
WINNER: Sean Taylor named to Pro Bowl
And I don’t think this was necessarily a tribute vote. Taylor had been having the best season of a solid, if short, NFL career when he was gunned down in his Miami home last month.
I’d like to see a tribute, though, at the game in Hawaii in February – akin to the one that Pete Carroll did at USC for Mario Danelo when he lined his extra-point team up for its first conversion attempt of the year sans placekicker.
WINNER: Bud Foster
Even if the WVU gig doesn’t end up being his, his name is out there – and a high-profile job is in his future.
WINNER: Dean Keener’s Dukes now 7-1
The road gets tougher – literally, as JMU plays five of its next six away from the Convo Center.
But seven wins by Dec. 19 ain’t bad when you had seven all of last year.
